Luke Chapter 7 (Expounded)

Luke Chapter 7

1) At this time, after Yahushua had accomplished all that He had spoken into the ears of the people He had taught on that level place at the base of a mountain in the region of Galilee, He entered into the city of Capernaum... 2584 Kapernaoum {cap-er-nah-oom'} - "village of comfort" - a growing, flourishing city in the region of Galilee, on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, or the Lake of Gennesaret, near where the Yardane River flows into the lake...

2) An officer in the Roman army... 1543 hakatontarches {hek-at-on-tar'-khace} - a centurion... was in that city. He had a beloved servant who was ill and about to die of the illness that was causing him to suffer.

3) When the centurion heard about Yahushua... about His ablity to heal all diseases and afflictions as He traveled throughout the region; and that He had come to Capernaum... he sent the Jewish elders... 4245 presbuteros {pres-boo'-ter-os} - overseers...generally; but not always, this refers to men of advanced years. In either case these men were considered to be mature in their character and experienced in the use of their general and/or specific knowledge capabilities by their society. They were called upon to take part in the management of public affairs within the society they were called to serve... of the city to Yahushua to ask for Him to come and heal his beloved slave... This Roman army officer held an authoritative position which was powerful enough, in the regard of those overseers of the Jewish part of the society of that city, to cause them to be obedient to his request of them to seek Yahushua out...

4) When those elders came to Yahushua, they instantly went to his side in order to speak to Him; and strove to exhort Him to come and heal this man's sick slave, by saying: This man is a worthy one for you pay attention to and do this thing that he is requesting.

5) Because he loves our nation... 1484 ethnos {eth'-nos} - our people... our national heritage and race...; and he has built a synagogue for us here in Capernaum.

6) Then Yahushua went with them toward where this centurion lived; and when He was near to where this house was, the centurion sent friends... 5384 philos {fee'-los} - friendly associates of the household... to meet him and bring a message from the centurion, by saying: lord... 2962 kurios {koo'-ree-os} - used here as a title of honor and respect with which servants salute their masters... do not trouble yourself by coming any further because I am not worthy... 2425 hikanos {hik-an-os'} - because I do not have sufficient authority to command you... so that you should have to enter the area under the roof of my house.

7) It is for this reason that I also did not think it fitting that I, myself, am worthy enough to come to you personally; but if you would speak the word, I know that my servant will be healed.

8) I say this because I am also a man set under authority... 5021 tasso {tas-so'} - I am also a man who has been assigned to the position I am in by another authority... I know how authority works... I have soldiers under my command; and if I say to one of them: "Go", then he goes; and if I say: "Come here" to another one, then, he comes to me; and when I speak to my servant and say: "Do this", he does whatever I have told him to do.

9) When Yahushua heard them say these things, He marvelled at the words of the Roman army officer; and He turned around to face the people who were following him and said: I tell you that I have not found... 5147 heurisko {hyoo-ris'-ko} - I have never met with, observed, and recognised so great a faith... so great a conviction of Truth... Not in Israel!... Not in anyone who is of the heritage and history of Israel alive today!...

10) Then, they who had been sent to deliver this message returned to the house. They discovered that the servant who had been sick to the point of dying was entirely healthy.

11) Then, the next day this happened. Yahushua went to a city called Nain... 3484 {nah-in'} - "beauty" - a village in Galilee located at the North base of a mountain called Little Hermon... and many of His disciples went with Him, and many other people.

12) When He approached the gate of the city, He saw a dead man being carried out. This dead man was the only son of his mother, who was also a widow; and many, many people of the city were with her as her dead son was being carried out.

13) When the Master saw her, He was moved with compassion on her behalf, and said to her: Weep not... Don't mourn and weep with grief for your son...

14) He came closer and touched the bier... 4673 soros {sor-os'} - the framework on which a dead body is laid in preparation for burial and for carrying the body... Those who were carrying the body stood still. He then said: Young man... 3495 neaniskos {neh-an-is'-kos} ... I say to you. Arise... 1453 egeiro {eg-i'-ro} - I tell you to awaken... Wake Up!...

15) The one who had been dead sat up and began to speak. Yahushua gave him back to his mother.

16) A great fear... 5401 phobos {fob'-os} - an overpowering sense of fear... a sense of terror... a sense of dread... came over all who were there; and they magnified Yahuah by saying: A great prophet has risen up among us! and: Yahuah has visited His people!

17) This rumor about Yahushua went out throughout all Yudaea; and throughout all the region around there.

18) The disciples of Yochanan the Immerser brought word of all of these things to him.

19) Then Yochanan called two of his disciples aside and sent them to Yahushua in order to ask Him: Are you the One that has been prophecied to come?,or , Do we look for someone else?

20) When the men had come to Him, they said: Yochanan the Immerser has sent us to you. So that we can ask you on his behalf: Are you the One whom we are expecting to come?, or Do we look for someone else?

21) In that same hour that these questions were asked of Him by those disciples of Yochanan the Immerser, Yahushua cured many from their infirmities and plagues, and from the influence of evil spirits; and to many blind ones He gave sight.

22) Then Yahushua, in answering the disciples of Yochanan, said this to them: Go on your way and tell Yochanan what you have seen and heard here. Tell him of how the blind can now see, that those who were lame can now walk. Tell him that the lepers have been cleansed, that those who had been deaf can now hear. Tell him that the dead are awakened again to life. Tell him that the good news of the kingdom is being brought to those who are poor and destitute in their spirit;

23) And tell him: Whoever does not distrust me and desert me, in whom they should put their trust, will be blessed.

24) Then, when the messengers sent by Yochanan had gone, Yahushua began to speak to the people following Him about Yochanan... For they were all around Him; and were there to hear His words and to witness His deeds;... and He said to them all: What did all of you go out into the wilderness to see... when you each made your decisions to find out what it was that Yochanan, whom you had heard of, was doing and saying?... Did you expect to find a reed shaken... did you expect to find the spectacle of a weak willed, feeble minded man being moved around... with the wind?... with the shifting winds of different and changing doctrines concerning Yahuah and Israel's place before Him?...

25) Well... Just what did you all go out to see? Did you expect to find a man garbed in soft and luxurious clothing?... A man accustomed to fine living and a standard of perfection in his expectations that is, for all of you, burdensome and unattainable?... Look! Those who are dressed in finely made clothing, who live in luxury and softness, are in the palaces and mansions of royalty... Why would you go out to the wilderness expecting to find someone like that?...

26) Well... If that wasn't what you thought you would find out there, then what did you go out to see in your expectations? A prophet?... 4396 prophetes {prof-ay'-tace} - someone moved from within themself because of the influence of a spirit, in this case the Spirit of Yahuah, who solemnly declares to men whatever has been recieved by him/her because of the inspiration of that Spirit... the word used by Yahushua more probably was close to the Hebrew word 5030 nabiy' {naw-bee'} - a spokesman... a speaker... which stems from the Hebrew primitive root 5012 naba' {naw-baw} - to prophesy under the influence of a spirit... Yahushua continues... Yes, I tell you.! You saw and heard a prophet; and much more than a prophet.

27) This is the one that this was written about: Look! I will send my messenger before your face. This messenger will prepare your way before you.

Malachi 3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me...

***Remember the prophecy over the infant cousin of Yahushua who was named Yochanan on the day of his circumcision?

From Luke chapter One... The infant who was named Yochanan by his parents, Zacharias and Elisabeth, on the day in which their son was circumcised on the eigth day of his life, is being prophecied over by his father while still in the temple...

67) His father, Zacharias, was filled with the Holy Spirit... the Most Holy Rational Spirit of Yahweh's Nature and Order...; and he prophesied... spoke out because of the inspiration of the Spirit of Yahweh... by saying:

68) Worthy of praise is Yahuah, Elohim of Israel; because he has visited and redeemed His people;

69) And He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant, David.

70) He has done just as He spoke through the mouths of his holy... 40 hagios [hag-ee'-os} - Most Holy... prophets... 4396 prophetes {prof-ay'-tace} - those who are moved within themselves... inspired... compelled... by Yahwuah to solemnly declares what he/she has received by His inspiration... Who have existed since the world began.

71) When they... the prophets... said that we... we who are of the people of Israel... would be saved from our enemies; and from the hands of all who hate us.

72) In order that He would accomplish the mercy promised to our forefathers; and so that He would remember His Most Holy covenant.

73) Which is the oath that He swore to our father, Abraham;

74) And so that He would grant to us, who have been rescued out of the hand of our enemies, would be able to serve Him, without fear,

75) In holiness... 3742 hosiotes {hos-ee-ot'-ace} - in the keeping of the ordinances... and in the righteousness... 1343 dikaiosune [dik-ah-yos-oo'-nay} - and in the state or condition of existence that is as it ought to be... While in the condition of existing which is in accordance with His Order... before Him all of the days of our lives.

76) And you, child, will be called... referred to as... the prophet... 4396 prophetes {prof-ay'-tace} - someone who is moved by Yahweh to solemnly declares what he/she has received by His inspiration... especially concerning future events... the prophet of the Highest... the prophet of the Most High... Because you will go before the face... 4383 prosopon {pros'-o-pon} - the outward appearance which indicates the inward thoughts and feelings... of Yahuah. To prepare... 2090 hetoimazo {het-oy-mad'-zo} - to get every thing and every one ready for... His ways... 3598 hodos {hod-os'} - His course of conduct... His manner of thinking, feeling, deciding, etc...

*** Note: Yahushua is the face... the outward manifestation of the nature... of Yahuah. Yahuah is invisible to mankind in His Reality...

Colossians 2:8 For in Him... in the Anointed One... dwells all, of the fullness of the nature of Yahuah, bodily...

**************************************************

John 1:17) For even though it is true that the law was given by... through... Moses. Grace... The favor and mercy of Yahuah... and truth... the True truth of Who and What Yahuah is... came through Yahushua... 2424 Iesous {ee-ay-sooce'} - transliterated and originated from H3091 Yehowshuwa {yeh-ho-shoo'-ah} - Yahweh is Salvation..., the Anointed One of Yahuah.

18) No one has seen the the face of Yahuah at any time. The only begotten Son... the only son within mankind who has ever been fathered by Yahweh..., Who is in the bosom of the Father... Who is cherished by His Father as an object of His intimate care and dearest affection..., It is He Who has declared Him... It is this Son Who has unfolded the teaching of Who and What Yahuah truly is...

**************************************************

*** Yochanan the Immerser prepared the minds and hearts of those who heard and understood him, by declarin and pointing all of them toward the face of Yahuah... toward the only one who exhibited all of the attributes of the nature of Yahuah, the invisible Creator of all that exists, so that they would be clearly seen and recognized as existing in... Yahushua...!

77) You... You who are now known as Yochanan ben Zacharias... will give knowledge of salvation to His... Yahweh's chosen... people through the remission of their sins.

*** For clarity - Zacharias prophesied to his eight day old son Yochanan...:

You who are now known as Yochanan ben Zacharias will be referred to as the prophet of the Most High. Because you will go before the face of Yahuah. To get every thing and every one ready for His manner of thinking, feeling, deciding, etc...

For further study... may not be necessary to read at this time... for this is what the face of Yahuah will do and be...

There is more to what Yahushua is referring to in Malachi 3:1-6... and Yahuah, whom ye seek for, shall suddenly come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, says the Elohim of hosts. 2 But who may be able endure or tolerate the day of his coming? Who shall be able to stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner's fire, and like the soap that is used by some one who washes cloth by treading it out. 3 He shall sit like a refiner and purifier of silver; and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them like gold and silver, so that they may be able to offer unto Yahuah an offering in righteousness. 4 Then shall the offering of Yahudah and Yerushalem be pleasant unto Yahuah, like it was in the ancient days, and like it was in former years. 5 And I will come near to you to give my opinions of your thoughts and actions; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who turn aside the stranger from what is rightfully his, and do not fear me, saith the Elohim of hosts. 6 For I am Yahuah! I do not change! Therefore you sons of Yacob are not destroyed...

Yahushua continues...

28) Because I am telling you this: Among all of those who can be numbered as having been given birth to by women, there is no greater a prophet... there is no one of greater stature out of all those who have been compelled to declare what the Spirit of Yahuah has inspired him/her to say... than Yochanan the Immerser. Yet, He who is least in the kingdom of Yahuah.... 932 basileia {bas-il-i'ah} - royal power... the right, or authority to rule within the kingdom of Yahuah... is greater in stature than he is... Even though Yochanan is the greatest prophet, inspired by the Spirit of Yahuah, who ever lived in the history of mankind,... the one who has the least rank or influence in the dominion of Yahuah that enables anyone to exercise ruling authority in the kingdom of Yahuah is greater than Yochanan is...

29) All the people that had gathered together to hear and see Yahushua , including those who were tax collectors, heard Yahushua say these things about Yochanan; and considered Yahweh their Elohim to be righteous for having sent Yochanan as His prophet to prepare them for whomever their Elohim was going to send that was to restore them to the place of favor they once had before Him. Because they had been immersed by Yochanan according to his teachings of repentance in their thinking and deeds regarding Yahweh and each other.

30) The Pharisees and lawyers... 3544 nomikos {nom-ik-os'} - those who considered themselves and each other to be interpreters and teachers of the Mosaic laws and traditions... rejected the counsel of Yahweh against themselves. For they had not humbled themselves before Yahuah's prophet and been immersed according to his call for them to repent and return to the manner of thinking, feeling, and doing that they should have been living as Yahuah's chosen people... They regarded themselves as superior over Yochanan, and anyone who listened to him, in their intellectual understanding... they did not profess a spiritual comprehension... of what was supposed to be according to Torah...

31) Yahushua said to all of them: Here is something for you to consider. To what kind of place should I compare the men of this generation? To what can I say that they are alike?

32) I will tell you: They are like children who are sitting in the marketplace, and calling out to one another, saying: We played on the flute for you; but you did not dance to the music we played. We have mourned out loud... 2354 threneo {thray-neh'-o} - we have sung songs bewailing those who have died... so that you could hear us; but you have not wept together with us in our grief and despair.

33) I point this out to you, because Yochanan the Immerser did not show himself to you as a man accustomed to eating normal food or drinking wine; and you said that He had a devil... 1140 daimonion {dahee-mon'-ee-on} -an evil spirit... controlling him... He is not behaving normally...

34) The Son of man shows himself to you eating and drinking; and you say: Look at that gluttonous man! He is a winebibber too!... 3630 oinopotes {oy-nop-ot'-ace} - He's a wino too...; and he is a friend to tax collectors and sinners!... 268 hamartolos {ham-ar-to-los'} - those who are devoted to sin... wicked people... heathen... Look at him! He's always getting invited to eat at other peoples houses!... He's always drinking too much wine wherever he goes!... He's also friendly toward those in our society that we ought to avoid so that they don't influence us with their behavior!...

35) But; I tell you, wisdom is justified... 1344 dikaioo {dik-ah-yo'-o} - is shown to be as it should be... by all of her children... by all of those who are truly instructed and guided, in their thoughts and behavior, by what wisdom truly is...

36) Then, one of the Pharisees in the crowd invited him to go to his house and eat with him... This was considered an honor in their society. For a teacher of the torah to be invited into the home of someone who is considered to be a professor who teaches teachers is recognized, by the public at large, as an auspicious occasion for the teacher of torah. For he can possibly carry away from that invite a valuable life lesson in the form of an exhortation, aid of some kind, or, a rebuke from the master professor...

37) It was then that a woman in the city, who was a recognized sinner, found out that Yahushua had been invited to the Pharisee's house. She made her way to that house, somehow gained entrance; and brought with her an alabaster box... a box or container made of fine, granular gypsum, white and translucent, made from mineral deposits commonly found; and used to make figurines, decanters, etc... which was full of an ointment.

38) She then stood behind where Yahushua was laying on a couch as he ate his meal. She was at his feet. She was weeping as she stood there; and her tears fell on his feet. She stooped down and began to wipe her tears from off of Yahushua's feet with her hair; and she kissed his feet... 2705 kataphileo {kat-af-ee-leh'-o} - a greek word of latin origin indicating that she kissed Yahushua's feet tenderly again and again, many times... ; and she then anointed his feet with the ointment that she had brought with her.

39) Now, when the Pharisee who had invited Yahushua into his home saw the behavior of this woman, he thought within himself: If this man really was a prophet... If this man whom I have honored by inviting him to eat a meal with me truly was someone who is inspired by the Spirit of HaShem - Adonai - Blessed be His Name for it is too Holy to say because to say His name would put a blemish on it by being spoken with unclean lips... then he would know who this woman is and what type of person she is that is touching him with her unclean, profane, common self. Because she is a sinner... Because she is an especially wicked person who is stained because of her vices...

40) Yahushua gave the Pharisee an answer to his thoughts by saying to him: Simon! I've got something to speak to you about. The Pharisee, Simon, said: Speak, Master... signifying respect for the status of Yahushua in society as a teacher of torah...

41) Yahushua said: There was a certain creditor who had two people owing debts to him. One owed five hundred denarion; and the other one owed him fifty...

"pence" -1220 denarion {day-nar'-ee-on} - from the Latin word denarius - "containing ten". A Roman silver coin which took its name from being equal, at that time, to ten asses. It was the principal silver coin of the Roman empire. Compare to Matthew 20:2-13 and find that it was considered the standard rate of pay for a days wages...

42) When it became known to him that neither one of his debtors had any way to pay him back, he forgave both of them of their debts to him. Now that you have heard this, let me ask you: Which one of those debtors will love the man who forgave those debts the most?

43) Simon answered Yahushua and said: I suppose it would be the one whom he forgave the most debt. Yahushua said to Simon: You have selected rightly.

44) Yahushua then turned toward the woman; and said to Simon: Do you see this woman? I entered into your house. You gave me no water so that I could wash my feet; but this woman has not ceased to wash my feet with her tears; and she has wiped my wet and dirty feet off with the hairs of her head.

45) You gave me no kiss of greeting or fellowship when I entered your house; but this woman has not ceased to kiss my feet since the time I came in to eat with you.

46) You did not anoint my head with oil; but this woman has anointed my feet with the ointment that she brought with her.

47) So I say this to you, Simon: Her sins, which are many, are forgiven. For she loved much, as is indicated by what she has shown me; but anyone who perceives that they are only needing a small amount of forgiveness, loves very little.

48) Yahushua then said to her: Your sins... your acts of lawlessness... Whatever is not of Yahuah's Way and order is lawlessness... See 1 John 3:4... are forgiven.

49) Then, those who sat at the meal together with Yahushua began to say within themselves: Who is this? That he also forgives sins?

50) Yahushua then said to the woman: Your faith... your conviction, within your heart, of the truth of Who and What I am; and that my Father has sent me,... has saved you. Go... continue on your journey... in peace... Shalom...
